There aren't many places where you can ski down the side of a live volcano, but there are plenty of opportunities in Chile!
Chile's ski resorts are all situated in Patagonia, in the southern half of the country. Depending on which resort you go to, it might take a few days getting accustomed to breathing at the higher altitude, as some of the resorts are at 3650m above sea level! The further south you go, the lower the altitude and the more basic the infrastructure is. These resorts also don't much in the way of a challenge for expert skiers or boarders, but then again, there are plenty of volcanos for those looking for a challenge!
The ski season in Chile runs from mid June to October, but July is typically the busiest month. As you would expect from a South American country, the apres scene can be quite lively, and the dancing goes into the early hours.
So if you're thinking of working a 'summer winter season', want to enjoy plenty of fresh powder, but go somewhere a 'bit different', then you should certainly look at Chile.
